6. Jaw-dropping. Stars.
The first book in this series ended with a MASSIVE cliffhanger where I gave up my heart. I should’ve never gotten it back because this book destroyed me even more.
This started a year after the first one ended and we were introduced to new characters either threatening or fighting for Sheehan, Clio’s city. This book had non-stop action and plot twists that had the air knocked out of me multiple times. Every page was even more intriguing and intense than the last and I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t experienced it.
My emotions in the first book were an emotional roller coaster ride but they were multiplied by 3 in this one. I was giddy with excitement, fuming with hatred, scared of the unknown, fainting with love-struck eyes (for RIECE!!!!!), cheering at Clio’s badassery, breaking at Clio’s grief, and so much more. I could go on for years and years, trust me.
So, speaking about Riece. God-freaking-almighty. RIECE!!!!!! I have no idea how to put into words the intense emotions I feel towards him. Jeezus. The pieces of my heart kept repairing but shattering into smaller pieces times infinity whenever he showed up. AHH!!!! I love that man. I need more of that man. I need him so much that I do harbor a tad of jealousy towards Clio but I still love her. She’s too badass to hate. Her story keeps unraveling as the story continues and it was brutal to my shock system. The power of her character is incredibly strong but at the same time, she’s just as human as we are.
Anyway, this book was beautifully tragic. I don’t know how to best describe it. Emily toyed with my emotions even more, giving me what I wanted and then taking it back before I was satisfied. I was kept on my toes and all I can say is that everything about the plot in this series is ASTOUNDING. Everybody HAS to read this book… I can’t stress that enough. Emily’s world owns a huge part of my heart and I love it too much to want it back.
I CAN’T WAIT FOR MORE (Riece…)!!!!

Review for The Boy by Madhuri Blaylock!

“I’ve learned the hard way that tears accelerate nothing and dampen plenty.”

This is the second book I have read from Madhuri and she still manages to blow me away. Her writing style is so badass but surprisingly easy to get through. Madhuri gives life to every single character that it feels life they grow out of the pages and go through their lives around me. This book started off right where the first one ended and it’s intensity kept growing from cover to cover. The grief and passion was tripled in this one and I thought the first one was heart-breaking. There were new difficulties to overcome and I didn’t know what was in store for the characters. Which scared me. This book was so brutal and gruesome that it had me cringing more often than not.
I can’t even choose a favorite character to boast about since they are all too amazing. If I had to choose though, I would go with The Boy, Wyatt. His character development was spectacular, for lack of a better word. He was already amazing in the first book but he molded into an even more memorable male character to date. His journey was full of grief and my heart broke whenever his did. I cried whenever he cried and it killed me not being able to comfort him. I am too attached to the characters and the war between all of them was catastrophic to my heart.
Not to mention, Madhuri also created one of the most memorable villains as well. And in the WORST possible way! Her name is Ava. Ugh, I thought I hated Ava in the first book but nope, I surpassed hatred with this one. Madhuri created one of the worst people imaginable and I must admire her for that feat. Madhuri, not Ava. Ava needs to die or else I will crawl into the pages and do it myself! GAH!
Anyway, back to the characters I love, I am so scared of what’s about to happen next!! I sense more grief in store for me and I don’t know if I can handle it…

-And last but definitely not least… I also received the BIGGEST package by far by author, Sophia Henry!!!

A little backstory: I entered one of her giveaways on Instagram that I ended up winning but I forgot to read the little detail that the giveaway was for an e-book copy of her book! As many of you know, I lack an e-reader. So, I told Sophia and she messaged back and told me to give her the name of a book I have been dying to get and she would gift me it. When I read this, I died… because the book I have been DYING to get has been Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas for over a year. So, I told her and BAM! She agreed to it. I could’ve fainted right then and there. So, weeks go by and then I find a box on my doorstep… I start screaming, I open it and this is what I see:

1443384794189-1[1]

WHAT!?!?!?!? She included sooooo many things that I didn’t expect and I seriously cried and shook with excitement. No wonder the box was so heavy! I kneeled on the ground and lost it, no joke. So, finally the hysteria subsided and I started going through everything she sent me:

1443382313748-1[1]

-3 booklets with the first few chapters of her book, the one I originally won, Delayed Penalty2 bookmarks, 2 business cards, 4 book cards, a hand-written note, 2 pink baggies with little pucks, a blue bag with temporary tattoos, pins, a mirror, and bracelets, a wrapped package with another hand-written note, and QUEEN OF SHADOWS!!!

So again, once the second episode of hysteria went away, I went to open the wrapped package and found this:

1443382341945-1[1]

No joke, no lies just truth. A KINDLE!!!!!!! Sophia… sent… ME… a kindle….. AHH!!!!! I cried again. She also sent me a code to redeem an amazon gift from her, which was her book. Also, there are MANY books already in the kindle… some by Colleen Hoover!

So, I didn’t end up just getting Queen of Shadows… I got book swag and book galore as well!!!

What a way to start off a weekend!

Review for Not In the Script by Amy Finnegan!

I can’t believe this book is a debut for Amy. Once I started this, I couldn’t put it down for anything. I read past the halfway point even though I had promised myself to only read one chapter before I went to sleep. Yeah, that didn’t happen. I ended up going to sleep around 3am and even that was forced. This book demanded my undivided attention from cover to cover.
It was fantastically written and the characters were so real that I refuse to call them fictional. Their backstories were incredible with so much depth and most important of all, they were believable. This book soon had me laughing uncontrollably since the humor in it was fresh and unique. I loved the snippet of the script that Amy provided, it made everything seem even more real than it already was.
From the start, I was subtly informed of a drama storm brewing between the characters and it kept me flipping the pages, wanting to reach the high point of it. Once it did, I was MIA from the world.
I was rooting so hard for Emma and Jake that it hurt me to see them trying to overcome obstacles that came with the Hollywood industry. Also, I got super excited when I saw that this was told in the POV of both of them. (If you know me, you know I have a weakness for male perspectives and one is found here!) Their relationship development was outstanding and I couldn’t have asked for a better pace. They shared their dreams and brought out the best in each other, just like any healthy relationship should do. I loved every second of them and I need more!
There were no shortages of drama, romance, love, betrayal, tears and laughs. I honestly can’t wait to read more from Amy. I had to update her on my emotions because I just couldn’t hold them in. I am addicted to her writing! Amy is with no question, an author to follow.

Review for Sacrificed by Emily Wibberley!

“I owe you my life a thousand times over, not because you’ve stopped spears from piercing my heart, but because you’ve shown me a world where you fight, not out of hate, but because you care, because there is so much worth fighting for.”

AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That quote stole my heart more than anything and that’s saying a lot because everything in this book is marvelous. My heart has been truly and completely shattered by Emily. I am so scared of reading the second book, I can’t take any more of this heartbreak!!
Anyway, I should start from the beginning:
This book started off with a plot twist. Yup, a plot twist. It goes without saying that Emily stole my heart the moment that happened. This book is brutal and intense, considering it takes part in the age where sacrifices were made. I’ve always loved this era and Emily brought the house down on me time and time again. The plot twists weaved into it kept coming my way and I was left trying to catch my breath. Just when I thought I had predicted what was about to happen, Emily pulled the rug from my feet reminding me that I was way in over my head.
I felt Clio’s, the main character, anger as if it were my own and that happens rarely then you’d think. Also, her character development was out of this world!! I wasn’t even close to being halfway into the book when Emily had me sobbing my eyes out. But it’s okay because she also had me laughing hysterically. I love the banter between Clio and the hot Commander, Riece!!
Oh, Riece!!! The things that guy said had me wishing I were in Clio’s shoes like nobody’s business.
I sacrificed my heart for this book, pun intended. The ending WAS SO NOT FAIR!!! I sobbed from the bottom of my chest. My shoulders were shaking, I couldn’t breathe… you get the point. It was to the point where I just wanted to send it to Emily with a note that said: “Here, take it. It’s not like I will need it anyway. It’s cool.”
Emily, you have successfully toyed with my emotions so that is six stars for you! It’s been a while since I’ve given one of these but you deserve every single star. Now, I must try and pick up the obliterated pieces of my heart in order to read the second book…
Oh, god…

Review for The Doctor’s Daughter by Vanessa Matthews!

“The greater the independence the greater the hysteria”

There were many quotes in here that surprised me but this one stuck to me the most. This was the first book I have read by Vanessa and oh my goodness, it was so good! I don’t recommend this to those under 18 because there are topics and situations not suited for them. Also, if you are dealing with depression, this may be a trigger for you.
I was completely blown away by this woman. Honestly, it took me some time to get into this book, it wasn’t it’s fault, I have been dealing with one of the worst slumps ever but when I found myself picking this baby up, I read quite a chunk of it at a time. It’s quick to get through and it had me losing myself for a while. With that said, as soon as I reached a particular part by the last chunk of the book, I couldn’t put it down for anything. This story is nothing short of tragedy, depression, devastation and darkness. I loved it. The chapters transitions into various characters but focuses mainly on Marta. Every character had such a strong voice that it was difficult not to listen to them, and believe in them, even if they were in the wrong.
Like I mentioned, this book follows Marta, the daughter of a psychiatrist living in a man’s world that is 1927 in Vienna. Her journey sparks questions about everything dealing with life: For example, the way we eat, how we eat, and why we eat it. Marta has learned to dissect actions and I respect her for everything she went through. I still can’t believe the gem I just read.
I was scared of this book from the moment I started it. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and when it did… I learned I never even saw it coming. Those plot twists were so unbelievably dark, I was astounded at the intricate web Vanessa wove. I was more than satisfied with the ending of this book, I recommend it if you’re up to it!

Review for Moon Tortured by McKenzie Hunter!

“This isn’t the first time I awoke in a strange place, naked and bloodstained.”
That line was seriously on the first paragraph. It was an epic first page to say the least and I was completely intrigued. I thought I was over the whole vampires and werewolves stories but I am so happy to say that apparently I’m not!
So many amazing character were introduced in this book and I can’t even name who was my favorite. Too difficult a task. They’re so complex, that one moment they have you melting and infuriating the bejeezus out of you on the next. It’s definitely a love-hate relationship with ALL of them for me. I devoured this book in a day. I was exhausted from lack of sleep but I didn’t have it in me to put it down before the last word. The action was almost nonstop and so much badassery everywhere! Whenever magic is involved you know something will go amiss and McKenzie brought it! Sometimes Skylar, the main heroine, was too naive for me and her actions were a tad repetitive but I see why they had to happen like that so I didn’t mind it.
The only bad comment I have to make is that I wish I hadn’t read the synopsis, I don’t usually but I did with this, since it gave away too much of the plot. So if you can refrain from it, do it! Better that way.
And that ending!! I was kept guessing throughout the entire thing and I have no idea what else is in store for these characters but I love it!

4.5/5 stars!
