Review for This Beautiful Curse by Kris Johnston!

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*

“Welcome to your nightmare.”

This is the first work I read by Kris and I will tell you now, it won’t be my last! This book is more like a long poem and I didn’t expect to love it so freaking much!
The author describes this as a Gothic fairy tale and a children’s book but for adults.
I agree completely! This poem spoke to my devotion to darker topics and creepiness. This isn’t necessarily creepy in a horror sense, but in the eerie way that the words resonate and crawl into your mind, burrow into your soul, and force you to become what the poem is speaking about.
Some of us readers, like me, don’t even need to be forced. We have already gone through the situations that are explained throughout and we experience a whole new level of heartbreak and despair by being reminded of it. I found myself crying through the entire thing… It was an interesting and unforgettable experience.
I love this so much that I will re-read it for many times to come. (As soon as I own it in physical form, because I need to touch it.) The illustrations are phenomenal and definitely add more to the dark ambiance already provided by her words. I will one day frame every page and hang them all around my room. I honestly loved this that much.
Kris has a natural talent to breathe any form of life into rhymes and I am looking forward to similar works by her. Maybe even frame them too!
I recommend this to everybody who loves to read darker works. You won’t be disappointed!

Review for The Kognition Cycle by Brandon R. Chinn!

*Copy provided in exchange for an honest review*

This is a bound up version of book one, First Fragment, and the second book, Second Stage. These books take place in the future, 2074 to be exact. The world is completely changed and the ‘internet’ isn’t the craze anymore. These stories focus on the global game, Kognition, which requires access to your mind in order to work…

First Fragment:

This was the first book I have read by Brandon and boy was I pleasantly surprised! Brandon has a unique style of writing and it fit perfectly with how the plot line was meant to be experienced.
I must admit that I experienced a slow start with First Fragment. I felt like I was experiencing information overload but that could’ve just been me. I had never read a book about a game before so I guess I was processing things different, not the book’s fault. I just didn’t know what to expect. Another little criticism I have was that some things were explained more than once and it sort of threw me off, I was just waiting for the plot to pick up a bit. But once I surpassed half point of First Fragment, I forgot all about it since it definitely picked up. Lisa, our main character, is thrust into a mystery and we are taken along for the ride as she tries to uncover something about the game she hadn’t yet experienced. After reaching the half point I could not put this down. I was completely blown away by the world building and the characters started to grow on me.

Second Stage:

I loved how nothing was given away as we were dropped into a different reality. I was excited to experience a different POV! Not that I was growing tired of Lisa’s POV but I just wanted to witness what somebody else in the game world was going through, and I got my wish! Cue in Sam living in a repetitive world. I was shocked by how easy I was able to follow the plot, so easy that I saw a couple of things coming before they happened. Although I saw the events coming, once they happened I still needed a couple of seconds to digest the shock of it.
I absolutely loved the character development we witness from Lisa. Oh my goodness. It wasn’t all good and that’s what I loved about it. The consequences of a game having access to your mind were completely realistic.
I was super busy trying to find out more about the characters that I didn’t fully grasp some bits of information/explanations but that’s all on me. (I really need to start reading more books about games so I’m not confused half of the time.) No matter, my experience was still more than enjoyable. I swear I need to read Third Trial asap!! This ends in a darn cliffhanger, of course, and I couldn’t contain my excitement of knowing more things were coming!
P.S.: I extremely enjoyed the two short stories at the end of this book. The topics were mentioned during both books but never fully explained, until these. I didn’t know they were so crucial to the understanding of the plot but they were. They both filled in some blank spaces and I must thank Brandon for that.
If you’re a gamer, I definitely suggest you read this book! And even if you’re not a gamer but would love to reach out of your norm, like me, then read it too!

4/5 stars!

Review Tour for A Faerie’s Revenge by Rachel Morgan!

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*

I am not ashamed to admit that I dropped everything I was doing the second I received the eARC file on my Kindle. This book (along with the rest of the series) has been a HIGHLY anticipated release for me. Book 4 left off with one of the most extreme of cliffhangers I have read yet and I honestly stalked Rachel for the first sighting of the release date.
I wasn’t even 10% in and I was already bawling my eyes out. That’s how intense this series gets me.
My heart can’t take all the emotions Rachel rips out of me!!! I swear my heart kept breaking into a million pieces EVERY time a certain someone with the name of CHASE was mentioned or made an appearance. That man has stolen my heart and a lot more of me, but it’s okay, he can have it all. I swear I would do anything for him… anyway…
I was not disappointed at all. In the contrary, this book blew away all of my expectations. I missed all of these characters dearly and I was more than ecstatic to submerge myself back into their world. I wish I could just transport myself into Creepy Hollow and stay there forever. It’s honestly my absolute favorite place to be out of all the worlds I have read.
Calla is my favorite perspective and I found myself once again aching when she ached and laughing when she laughed. Her emotions flowed through the pages into me and it’s the closest I’ve gotten to experiencing this magnificent world for myself. Calla’s development keeps stunning me, I mean look at that ending! I bow down to the strength her character has held on to due to her circumstances. Calla and Chase’s story kills me so much but they are one of my favorite characters of all time so I just learned to deal with it.
This story was incredibly fast-paced, action-packed, and full of mind-blowing plot twists.
These books just keep getting better and better. I can NOT wait to see where the next book will lead us.
(P.S.: Chapter 16 murdered me multiple times.)
This series is electrifying. My love and devotion for it knows no bounds! Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, needs to read this series immediately! Once again, I find myself highly anticipating the next book in this incredible series.
Can it never end please?

Uncovering Desire, book two in the Uncovering Love series, is a full length, contemporary romance, and can be read as a standalone.

My Review:

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*

This is the second book I have read by Kacey Shea and I never seem to get enough! I read it in one sitting and ignored life.
This story started with hilarity and it did it’s job of completely sucking me into the story from then on. I read the first book, Uncovering Love, back in June and I found it surprising that even though it was months ago, I was easily transported back into the lives of these characters as if no time had passed at all. That is a talent I rarely see and I loved finding it in Kacey!
This book was told in Jon’s and Kate’s POV, people we were introduced to on the first book and it was a joy ride. I still got my dose of Tate (MY LOVE!!) and Evelyn and I must thank Kacey for that!
I found myself unable to stop smiling through almost the entire thing. This story was just too adorable and quirky that there was never a dull moment. But that’s not all, we also find out more about what shaped Kate into being who she is and it’s a serious issue. This book has it’s serious moments and appreciated them as much as I did the funny ones. Kacey touches on real life experiences and it adds a unique and believable flavor to her writing. The characters are brought to life and I felt like I could hang out with them someday. With that said, the character developments of both Jon and Kate were satisfying and the best part, they are still developing, just like a real person would.
My favorite character in this book, besides the main duo, has got to be DREW!!! That man is a whole new level of hilarious and I found myself tearing up from laughing so hard at what came out of his mouth. I want to reread this book just to experience his quirkiness again.
Also, quick note, I fangirled when I stumbled upon my last name (Carpio) on this book!
Despite the length of this novel, the depth found in its pages was a blow to my heart. I sympathized completely with all of these characters and I can’t wait for the next novel!
I also want to thank Kacey with the bottom of my heart for mentioning on her acknowledgements. It was a complete and utter surprise and I couldn’t stop crying for a couple minutes. It’s a surreal and fantastic feeling that I hope everybody gets to experience at least once in their lives someday!

Review: Omega and Omega Miniseries by Lizzy Ford!

Today, 10/26/15 is an amazing day! The incredible Lizzy Ford‘s book, Omega, is finally out into the world! I read this book back in August and fell absolutely in love with everything and anything about it!

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*

“Your name is seared into my soul. I will always return to you.”

This was the first novel I have read by Lizzy Ford and boy did I fall in love, died, and went to fictional world heaven.
This story is about a modern world that is ruled by Greek gods and it is as chaotic and amazing as it sounds. I am addicted to anything dealing with Greek mythology and this book definitely fed my addiction. I need so much more of this series, like now!!!
Lizzy Ford weaves an incredible and magnetizing plot line that had me intrigued from the moment I cracked the spine!! It’s full of mystery, betrayal, double-guessing, surprising friendships, love, loyalty, and hilarious banter. There is as much evil as there is good in this incredible world and it automatically transported me into it. I experienced everything as if I was there and once I got to the last page, I wanted to plant my feet and never leave.
All of the characters Lizzy Ford created here are some of the most diverse people I have had the pleasure of reading about. I was astounded by every single one and I am proud to say I found myself liking all of them. Yes, even the evil ones.
This book is one of the most incredible books I have ever read… I read this two months ago and I still think about it all the time.
Especially Adonis…. Oh. My. Lord… Adonis. Oh, how I love that man!!!! I was a blubbering mess any time he appeared, spoke, or was brought up in this book. He is incredible, loyal, badass, sexy, hilarious, and lethal. He’s perfectly imperfect and I love everything about that man. He conquered my book boyfriend’s list from the second he appeared.
Alessandra, the main character, is amazing as well. She’s honest to a fault and I could relate to her automatically for it. I love the fact that she can hold her own even after everything that’s thrust her way.
“Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed.”
I struck gold with this book in the quote department. There were so many that just choosing one was impossible!!
The ending to this broke my heart into a million pieces… If you’re a fan of oracles, Greek gods, stunning characters, an epic plot line, and an overall thought-provoking world… you MUST read this book asap!

6/5 stars!

Since Lizzy was incredible enough to provide me with a bound-up edition of her Omega novellas, I decided to post my review for that on this post as well. We’re already celebrating her so why not!

This is the bound-up edition of the novellas for Omega and it’s marvelous inside and out. I was speechless throughout the entire thing. I lack much of a review because I was too busy digesting the incredible stories to write down notes.
I have always had a weakness for origin stories and I was incredibly pleased with these!

Alessandra: She was HILARIOUS as a kid. I loved being able to witness all the details of how her life changed the moment she decided to do something she had never done before. I also bowed to her since she seems to have one of the biggest hearts I have read (even experienced).

Mismatch: THIS!!! This is the story I have been waiting for!! Jeezus, Mismatch is the love of my life. No shame. This man has a heart of gold as well and that made me fall for him all over again. No matter how much I get from him, I am craving sooo much more! Yup, I’m a Mismatch-junkie and I will be until the end of time!

Phoibe: This story was one of the most intense from them all. She has one of the saddest childhoods and I just wanted to reach into the pages and take her in. Such a poor, poor child. My heart broke even more for her. She didn’t deserve anything that she went through.

Lantos: This man is such a complex character that I just love the fact that there’s an origin for him as well. His story is so… heartbreaking, that I can’t make myself to hate him. He’s a Demigod and I found myself wishing I had his powers more than once. We see a side of him that we don’t see much on Omega.

Theodocia: Woah. I love this story! I had forgotten what an intense duo she and Niko were. It was entertaining and a little heartbreaking to go back in time to see why they are as hostile toward each other as they were on Omega. This one was really sad.
Niko: I was so irritated with this man on Omega. But as irritated as I was with him, I couldn’t hate him either. Now, we see a side he doesn’t show on Omega and I loved every second of it. I love this man and his story was also one of the ones I was looking most forward to. He’s badass in his own right and it was a treat to see how he became a gladiator and why.

Cleon: AHHH!!!! Here is another incredible enigma. One that I thought was completely and utterly evil. But guess what?! As far as origin stories go, you find out that the person isn’t always who they appear to be. The last sentence to this story had me bawling my eyes out!! WHY?! Ugh. I can’t hate this man… I was close to it on Omega but this story just thwarted the chances.

Herakles: OH!! Enigma #65577 (random number). This story was devastating… so completely brutal. Herakles’ past is a mystery during Omega but I felt myself getting attached to him, no matter how little I knew of him. His story might be one my most favorite yet. You get to see more of the man who wants to be himself more than anything in the world. A man who’s opinion and voice was taken from him long ago. This story is about a phoenix rising from the ashes and I admire him so much more for it.

My heart went out to all of these characters. These stories made me fall in love with characters I only grew to like on Omega. Every character’s tragic past is intertwined with the other’s and it’s mind blowing to find out how. All of these stories are making me want to reread Omega again with the new knowledge I have from them… As devastating as these stories are, they were definitely needed to understand why the characters are who they are.
Lizzy is a one incredible master at story telling and I am so glad to have found her.
