This is the second book in this series, and I have to say, out of the first two, the first one was my favorite. It took a lot for me to get through this.
I was fine with Avery in the first book but after reading this one, oh my god, I can NOT stand her. I felt like this book was TOO focused on her to the point where it was MOSTLY focused on her. Now, I wouldn’t have minded this if I actually liked her. Every guy in her life is obsessed with her and honestly, I haven’t been given a reason to believe it or support it. She’s all they think about and they were so obsessed with figuring out who she would choose as her boyfriend that it was just ridiculous; I couldn’t care less. She’s also too dependent on Greyson and lets her emotions get in the way of everything. I just want her to be her own person but I am not seeing that happening any time soon.
Talking about Greyson, I am very worried about him. He’s so nice and sweet and he deserves better than Avery (I’m sorry, but I said it and won’t take it back) and I just want him to be happy. There are some things going on with him that are scaring me and I hope aren’t as bad as I think they are.
My favorite character in this series has to be Michael. He’s the only guy that isn’t letting Avery run his life. He has other things going on and honestly, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I am not interested in the romance anymore. I want to know what is going on in this world. I am still treading water and I don’t know any more than I did when I started the first book. I am super intrigued by all of the creatures and super powers but I wasn’t even given a small detail about them I already didn’t know. I want to know the why and what about their powers!
I swear, all of these characters just need to be HONEST!! Jesus Christ. So much time could’ve been saved without having them run around in circles with each other. It got repetitive and predictable and the guys just got on my nerves, except Michael. I swear this isn’t how guys act, it drove me insane. I’m sorry but I was just ‘What the hell!?’ every time they spoke, especially Avery’s bf (forgot his name).
The end started getting better and saved the story for me. It’s the reason why I’m giving it 3.5 stars instead of just 3. Shannon knows how to end a book that has you begging for more. I have a theory in mind about what happened but there’s only one way to find out.

3.5/5 stars.

  1. Oh no Greyson!!!!! :”( Noooo, that makes me so sad. I am still willing to read the rest of the books, if you would still like to work with me. I might not be a fan of some characters but like I said, the world is intriguing me so much! I still want to see how they grow as they discover the secrets of their powers and all(:
