ICYMI Author Spotlight: Dorothy Dreyer!

Name: Dorothy Dreyer
Genre/s you write: YA Paranormal
Birthday: August 20
Number of books out: 2 (My Sister’s Reaper and My Tethered Soul)

-Why did you choose to become an author?
The calling chose me, actually. I always have at least one story in me, and the voices in my head beg to be transposed onto paper.
-Are there specific steps you take when you write? Ex: Is it planned or spontaneous?
I’m mostly a plotter. I need to know where the story is going, but I don’t necessarily know every step of the journey. So I work with a basic outline, and elements of the plot come to me while I’m writing.
-Do you have any advice for an aspiring author?
Read, read, read. Also, don’t follow trends. Write the book you want to read.
-How do you get over creativity block?
I read other books, I re-read things I’ve written, I step back and take a walk or watch a movie, and sometimes I just have to push through and write whatever comes to mind, even if it’s crap. Because you can fix crap; you can’t fix a blank page.

-Where are you from?
I was born in Angeles City, Philippines, but I moved to Massachusetts before I turned one, and I moved around a lot in my youth due to my father being in the military.
-What book/s are you reading now?
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas and Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall.
-What is your guilty pleasure?
YouTubers. I’ve been known to immerse myself for hours watching danisnotonfire and amazingphil.
– Who is your current celebrity crush?
I will forever have a place in my heart for Ewan McGregor, but I can’t deny my current crush on Tom Hiddleston.

I’m a Philippine-born American living in Germany with my husband and two teens.

I write young adult books that usually have some element of magic or the supernatural in them. I also like to read those kinds of books. Aside from reading, I like movies, chocolate, take-out, traveling, and having fun with my friends and family.

I tend to sing sometimes, too, so keep me away from your Karaoke bars.
