I’ve been waiting for novellas of this series for so long that it feels surreal that I just finished one of them. I loved so many things about this novella and it gave me the strongest urge to reread the series from the beginning so I can go in knowing what I do now.
I love how Amy has an effortless ability to make me forget my own reality to the chaos and devastation that is this world she created. The brutality in this world is so prominent and realistic that I always have a sick feeling in my stomach whenever I read about it. My mind is clouded with utter fear for these characters that I love so much that doesn’t let up.
This novella follows Nash, an undefeated fighter in the fighter pits, 2 years before Crimson Sky. I loved him ever since we were first introduced to him in Crimson Sky and this novella made me love him even more.
I loved how we were brought in right into the middle of all the action. It captured my attention from the very first word and it didn’t change for one second. I loved witnessing Nash’s first encounter with Sawyer and how their relationship was initially formed. In a world where everyone is trying to survive another day, it hurt to see Sawyer trying to do it alone. This novella made me respect both of these guys even more than I already did and I can’t wait to continue reading more of this series!
