A Fortnight in Loom Event: Week 1!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you might have seen me promoting this exciting event Amy and I have put together for you all! We decided that we wanted to celebrate one of our favorite authors ever, Elise Kova, and what better way to do that than to speak about her new series for two weeks straight?!

The mastermind behind it all is my beautiful co-host, Amy, so I think you should all show her all the love! I jumped on board when she came to me with the idea (we were fangirling over everything by Sarah J. Maas at the time) and I decided to help out by testing my almost nonexistent editing skills with some promotional pictures!

(By the way, Amy’s books are amazing so you should read them as well! I’ll leave my reviews for her at the very bottom of this post so you can see what grabs your attention.)

With this being the first day of Week 1 and I can honestly say that Amy and I have been waiting for this moment for what feels like for EVER. We’ve been planning and everything for a few weeks now and I can’t believe our event is finally here! The amount of love and support we have received so far has been overwhelming and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of fans to share this event with!

Week 1 is strictly dedicated to those who received an ARC either from NetGalley or directly from Keymaster Press. This is an ARC read-a-long where we will be discussing 6 chapters a day over on our private Goodreads group!

Like the picture says, if you were approved, please join us! If Amy or I haven’t sent you a link to our discussion group, please comment below and I will fix that asap!

*The Alchemists of Loom releases January 10, 2017!*

If you weren’t approved for an ARC, don’t worry, you can still be a part of this event! Week 2 will be a week of photo challenges where EVERYBODY can participate and let their creativity show!

Please make sure to come back next Monday and you will get all the details about Week 2!

And don’t forget:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a huge MUST in order to participate in our entire event!

COVER REVEAL: The Crown’s Dog by Elise Kova!

I think we all know by now that I live for anything and everything that has to do with Elise Kova, and this new cover is most definitely not an exception!

I am so obsessed with its entirety and I can’t wait to be able to hold a physical copy in my hands once it’s out!

I was insanely fortunate to be able to sort of beta read this novella and give Elise some pointers but all I have to say about that is that it’s as amazing as anything else from our Dragon Queen.

I am tremendously grateful to have been given this chance and I can’t wait to reread it! Thank you so much, Elise, for being you!! Which is a hard-working author to admire and an amazing person to know!

And  now, without further ado, let’s get into what started it all:

Air Awakens (Book One):

A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

(This is the first in the Air Awakens PREQUEL novella series)

A coastal summer is turned upside down by a violent murder, and a quest for lost pirate treasure turns into a hunt for the killer.

Jax Wendyll is the crown’s dog. As punishment for the unspeakable crimes that tourment him to this day, his life has been conscripted to the Empire Solaris. However, in an Empire afflicted by peace, his duties are relegated to unquestioningly aiding the antics of the youngest prince, Baldair.

Erion Le’Dan, a nobleman’s son, expects a quiet summer visit to the Imperial Palace, his only agenda to visit with his unlikely friends. But Jax’s discovery the legendary pirate Adela Lagmir’s old workroom inspires a hunt for her long lost treasure.

The pursuit of Adela’s truth takes the three men to the Imperial summer manor, built along the old pirate mainstays. When Adela’s trident is branded into a murdered servant, Prince Baldair’s summer amusement of treasure-hunting becomes a hunt to find the killer. But, as mysteries compound, the ghosts of Jax’s past may not be the only things haunting them.

Review: Crystal Crowned by Elise Kova!

*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review*

“I am the wind, Aldrik, but you are the compass point to which my passions gust.”

Welp, the time has come to wave goodbye to this spectacular series and most important of all, my babies Aldrik and Vhalla. Jesus. I am devastated. I don’t know how to start this review. I’m being overwhelmed with feelings that I felt when I finished this book last month. I feel as if I just finished the book a second ago and I’m completely desperate to crawl back into this marvelous world. And more importantly, revisit the love of my life, Aldrik. UGH!!!!! Why can’t I reach into the pages and pull him out so he can be with me?????
Anyway, back to the review. I have no idea what else to say that I haven’t said before but I will try.
Right off the bat, I felt as I was being pulled into my doom. Every read page was a page closer to the end and I experienced the most intense battle of wills while reading this. I wanted to slow it down as much as I could but clearly that didn’t work out since I finished it in a day.
I loved how even though this is book 5, we are still learning new things about this world and its characters. We are still getting deeper looks into their backgrounds and I couldn’t help obsessing over them. I was proud of everybody that made it to the end, not just Vhalla and Aldrik. Every single one of them carved their place into their world and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to leave them.
Speaking about deeper backgrounds, WE GOT TO SEE MORE OF JAX’S!!!!!! That was one of my absolute favorite things about this book. We got to see why he became what he is and how. If Aldrik wasn’t in the picture, Jax would be the love of my life so the fact that we got to see more of his background was a big deal for me. His character, just like the others, was deliciously complex and I loved having the honor to witness what made him tick. His character development was enough to make me swoon and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Ugh, if I can’t bring Aldrik to life can I bring Jax instead???
Moving on. Vhalla kept making me feel immensely proud of the person she has become since book one. Her fierceness and her loyalty were two of her never-ending amazing qualities that I kept rooting for. The road from a librarian to royalty was fascinating to witness and immensely rewarding for the characters as well as the readers. She’s nothing less that an inspiration and I will forever hold her dear to my heart.
And then there’s Aldrik. My sweet, realistic, fierce, sexy specimen of a man. What can I say about my love that I haven’t said before? Well, as proud as Vhalla has made me, it doesn’t come nearly as close as to how proud Aldrik has made me. He started off as an aloof, broken, broody prince but he manged to become a fearless but kind ruler. His character development was the most satisfying out of every other one, for me. He overcame the things that would have made him a not-so-great ruler and everything that made his relationship with Vhalla a toxic one. I will forever admire him for being the most amazing male fictional character that has ever crossed my path.

“What did one say to a man who had lost everything but gained the world?”

The only criticism I have is that I felt like this book was slower than the others. I didn’t mind it so much since there was more of my ultimate favorite power couple and I will never complain about that. Also THE confrontation came too far into the book and ended too quickly for me. I don’t know how to explain it but I would’ve liked… more out of the battle.
All in all, that ending more than makes up for it all. It was perfect, a bit predictable, but perfect nonetheless. Vhalla and Aldrik are characters that definitely deserve each other more than anything in the world. (I’m a little-a lot- jealous of that fact.) All of their struggles and sacrifices weren’t for nothing and they paved the way for the best outcome. I couldn’t stop smiling while watching them interact with each other. Yes, I’m jealous of Vhalla and forever will be, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t tremendously happy for the two of them. They witnessed some of the worst things imaginable and have lost more than a person should ever lose but they still managed to keep each other afloat.
Even though we got 5 books out of this incredible series… I will always, ALWAYS, be internally demanding more. I will never have enough time with these characters that have made me fall in love over and over again with their complexity and realism. No other books will ever live up to the pedestal that I hold this series on and that is the harsh truth. Elise has ruined me for everybody else but I don’t regret a single moment of it.
Like I said a while back, I gave up rating this series. Just keep in mind that I am more than obsessed with it and it deserves more than just 5 stars.

Cover Designer: Nick D. Grey

Her vengeance. His vision.

Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.

My review:

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*
“Home had become where he was.”
This book has to be my favorite of this series so far. Oh. My. World. How could 300+ pages be my life yet my unavoidable ruin?
Earth’s End picks up right where Fire Falling leaves off (cue in ugly sobs). Fire Falling left in the most unbelievable and world-breaking of cliffhangers. You could imagine my grief when I knew my beloved characters were in the brink of immense suffering yet I couldn’t read about it until months later.
It’s an honor to be in Vhalla Yarl’s, our beautiful and strong main character, head and witness how far she has come from book one. Her character development keeps leaving me stunned and so unbelievably proud of her. I can’t believe how amazing she deals with the terrible things thrown her way. I am pretty sure I would have lost my cool, or my life, the second I met the horrible Emperor in book one.
We were introduced to new characters and they where amazing, of course. I am officially obsessed with Jax!! That man can say and do no wrong. I hope I get to see much more from him in the future. I am immensely grateful for him since he got me to laugh even while my heart was breaking.
It goes without saying that the men in this series are phenomenal and unforgettable but nobody will ever, ever take Aldrik’s place in my heart. Not anybody in this series nor in any other. He has stolen every piece of me I have to give and I will never regret that. I am beyond scared but no matter how this series wraps up, I will be glad that I at least got to meet these wonderful characters. My life has definitely been better with them in it.
What I love most about said characters are the complexity. They feel so real that I feel horrible calling them ‘characters’. You think you know everything there is to know about them but it turns out that you know nothing. I was taken by surprise by so many things and I am still reeling over them. No matter how perfect these characters are to me, they are tremendously flawed and it breaks my heart not being able to help them find happiness.
There is a war raging inside of me. I don’t know what I want for these characters I have grown to love with all my being. I want them to get everything they want since it’s the least they deserve, but we all know that never comes without a sacrifice. And AHH!!! Sacrifices are NOT what I want for them.
If you’ve read my previous reviews for Elise, then you know how terrified I am of her and her writing. My heart has been in her hands since book one and it hasn’t been a pretty ride. I’m devastatingly invested in these characters. If they are chased to the edge of their sanity, they take me with them. I can’t tell you how many tears I have shed for this series. From the moment I opened the first cover, I was an absolute mess.
I always have to read these books in my room so nobody gets to see how brutal they are on my heart. This book drove me insane. The roller coaster we witness in this story is nothing short than emotional. I couldn’t bathe in the joy some scenes brought because in the back of my mind, I was waiting for the shoe to drop. It kept getting worse and worse and I don’t know if I will be able to make it to the last book. Kova weaves such an intricate plot line that keeps breaking me in ways I never knew I could be broken.
Also, I absolutely lost it when the clues in the cover made sense. I will never look at a pocket watch the same again. Every little thing about this series will haunt me forever.
I couldn’t put this book down for the life of me. I kept trying to take breaks because I couldn’t stop crying. I always gave into it a second later. I couldn’t stop shaking and the most horrible of feelings in my stomach stayed with me until the very end.
This series… will be the death of me. … THAT ENDING IS KILLING ME!!! Over an over again, I can’t believe Kova would do such a thing to me. If there is one thing you must know about her, is that she doesn’t hold back. At all.
Here is to the next 4 months of crying myself to sleep while wanting more but being terrified of finding out more. There isn’t a word in existence that can fully explain what this world has done to me.
“I wanted to give you the promise of my minutes, my hopes, my days…”

7/5 stars!

A word from Elise about her playlist:

For anyone who knows me, I MUST have music when I’m writing. In fact, it was the song Clarity, by Zedd, that was the initial inspiration for the entire Air Awakens series! Music helps me get “in the zone” and then find my groove again when I have to stop. Needless to say, I have full-on playlists devoted to every book. To get people excited, and to be used while reading, here is the full playlist for Earth’s End, in order, conveniently made in YouTube!
