This was my first read by Eric Lindstrom and I can’t wait to read more by him!
This book follows Mel, who is struggling with the loss of a family member and shouldering a bipolar disorder. We get flashes from the past as we follow her and her grief. This was my first time reading about a character with bipolar disorder and I found myself relating to her more often than not. We are both struggling with mental disorders and I couldn’t help but feel over protective of her. They might be different disorders but when it comes down to it, the suffering is the same. My heart went out to her as she went through events nobody deserves to go through.
This book started out a bit slow for me so I had to set it down right away. I picked it up a few weeks later with a fresh mindset and I was even more invested the second time around. I couldn’t put it down to save my life so I ended up reading the rest in one sitting.
There were some twists and turns that I was not expecting whatsoever, especially from certain characters. Mel had me crying nonstop once I got to the last few chapters; Secrets and betrayals were brought to light and all I could do was hang on for one of the most emotional rides of my life.
I especially loved meeting David, one of the best characters ever. He was hilarious and perfect in my eyes. He had me smiling like crazy and his personality was a breath of fresh air. I could definitely see why he was perfect for Mel and I was 100% behind them being a couple. I loved this story. It was utterly emotional and beautiful. I felt like my insides were scraped raw from emotion but I didn’t regret a single second of it.
